Milk thistle (Silybum marianum)

In Epatoril Plus there is a high dose of Milk Thistle (400 mg), a plant known since ancient times for its beneficial effects on the liver. The properties of Cardo Mariano are due to Silimarina, naturally present in fruits (seeds) in a percentage of 4%, extracted with methods that guarantee a high content of active ingredient: it is in fact titrated to 80% (320 mg of Silymarin). Another feature is the high purity, so the absence of allergens and contaminants. Moreover, the Cardo Mariano used is exclusively of Italian origin.
Silymarin is a mixture composed mostly of three flavonolignans: Silibina, Silidianina and Silicristina. Taken together, these substances have shown antioxidant properties (ability to increase hepatic levels of glutathione) and hepatoprotective, are able to accelerate the regenerative processes of the liver because they increase the metabolic activity of hepatocytes, have action of defense against hepatotoxic substances, alcohol and toxins as they block their penetration into the cells. As such, Silymarin is used in liver disorders, hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, intoxication and poisoning, digestive disorders related to liver dysfunction, alcoholic steatosis and problems due to alcoholism.
In addition, silymarin would favor the production of breast milk, silibine and silicristine exert a protective effect on the kidneys from cell damage caused by paracetamol and studies on the role of silymarin in the control of glycemia and neoplastic cells are underway.

Turmeric

In Epatoril Plus a particular Curcuma is used, formulated with soy lecithin, called Meriva. The active ingredient of turmeric is curcumin, known and used since ancient times for its extraordinary anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and pain-relieving properties, the latter thanks to its ability to act specifically on nociceptors, ie on the terminations of sensory neurons that signal tissue damage and allow painful sensations to be transmitted to the brain. Recent studies also document its antitumor and cardioprotective activity (source: Effects of Curcuminoids on Frequency of Acute Myocardial Infarction After Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting-journal of Cardiology). It is necessary, however, to underline that curcumin is not the only active ingredient of Turmeric, in it there are two other equally important active ingredients: Demetossicurcumin and Bisdemetossicurcumina, which have therapeutic properties comparable to curcumin itself. We therefore speak, more appropriately, of Curcuminoidi.
Extractive curcumin has some critical aspects, including two particularly important ones: a low intestinal absorption and a high hepatic first pass metabolism (destruction of the active ingredients during the passage through the liver, before reaching the systemic blood circulation). These problems make the extractive curcumin little bioavailable and, consequently, prevent the active ingredients from fully carrying out their therapeutic activity in the organism.
To overcome this problem in the Epatoril Plus, Meriva® is used: curcumin phytosome®. Phytosomes (from the Greek, phytón = PLANT and soma = BODY) are plant-based complexes that bind curcumin (and other curcuminoids) to phospholipids capable of improving the bioavailability of the active ingredient. Meriva® allows to convey the curcumin and the other two curcuminoids so that, through pinocytosis (modality of penetration of the molecules inside the cell), they can enter intestinal cells (enterocytes) and be conveyed into the lymphatic circulation thus bypassing the first pass metabolism hepatic. In this way the 3 curcuminoids will be able to enter the systemic blood circulation reaching directly the sites of action where they will carry out their activity.
It is for these reasons that phytosomal Curcuma guarantees an absorption about 30 times greater than that not formulated.

We recommend taking 1 tablet a day or as prescribed by a doctor, preferably on a full stomach, before or during main meals.
